[ARCHIVED] Things to do Around Poway: Spring Break Edition

Things to do Around Poway - Spring Break Edition graphic

Got kids? If you need free/low-cost activities for spring breakers between now and when school is back in session, there is plenty to do around Poway.

Check out a neighborhood park (poway.org/park-map) or take a hike on any of our 78 miles of trails (poway.org/trails). Our Poway library (sdcl.org/poway) is a great escape with free activities for a range of ages this week.

> Art Gallery at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts is open select hours Tuesday through Sunday. This month the Surfing Madonna Oceans Project features winners of their Ocean/Earth/Air juried regional show. Over 100 artists and poets from across California submitted entries highlighting “our beautiful, fragile and fascinating world.” Info: powaycenter.com.

> This Saturday and Sunday (April 15-16) the locomotive will be on track at Old Poway Park. Visit powaymidlandrr.org for hours and fare information. If you visit on Saturday, you can pick up healthy and delicious treats at the Poway Farmers Market and browse a selection of arts and crafts at the Boardwalk Craft Market. Park info: poway.org/oldpowaypark.

> The Poway Valley Garden Club Annual Flower Show & Plant Sale is also this Saturday at Old Poway Park. Come and see a wide variety of dazzling plants and flowers on display in Templars Hall, or express your own creativity by submitting your own entry. All ages are welcome to come and enjoy a fabulous day of gardening ideas, plant sales and more. Park info: poway.org/oldpowaypark.

> Stop by the Poway Library for “Crafternoon” on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. It’s geared for ages 6 to 10 but if you visit their website, there are activities throughout the week for all ages. Visit: sdcl.org/poway.

> Our Poway Community Swim Center has special hours for swim and the splash pad the whole week, but the weekend weather is looking perfect for Saturday’s Family Swim session. The family price of $11 for residents includes up to two adults and two children. Visit poway.org/swim for information.

> A new book about Earth Day is posted along the Green Valley and Creekside Trail at Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. Connect the little ones with nature while enjoying a fun way of learning on this easy one-mile hike. Visit poway.org/bluesky for more information.

> Take a tour of Lake Poway on a pedal boat Wednesday through Sunday. Bring a picnic lunch or visit the lake concession stand and hang out under a shady tree after you are finished. Visit poway.org/lakepoway for details about amenities and parking at the recreation area.

> This Saturday the Kumeyaay-Ipai Interpretive Center is hosting its monthly Open House, with free docent-led tours of this archeological site. You will experience native gardens, artifacts, ramadas, a replica village, and examples of acorn grinding stations. View hours and directions at poway.org/kiic.
