Lake Poway will be closed for boating and fishing on Wednesday, Aug. 5 for routine algae control at the lake. The treatment to remove algae does not harm fish or wildlife, but it does require a 24-hour closure before lake activities can resume.
The Lake Poway Recreational Area will remain open; access to hiking trails will not be affected. Boating and fishing activities will reopen at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6.
Lake Poway serves as the city’s main water storage reservoir, with a capacity to hold more than 1 billion gallons of water. This closure is unrelated to the recently announced lake maintenance project to replace the transducer. The treatment was originally planned for a later date, but needed to be scheduled earlier to mitigate a possible algal bloom.
