[ARCHIVED] "Poway Perfect" Day at the Park

Old Poway Park with train at station

Listen to live music. Discover local harvests. Ride the railroad. Enjoy the arts. There’s nothing quite as “Poway” in all of Poway as Saturdays in the park at Old Poway Park.

What’s New, New-ish, and Coming Soon…

Music in the Park

This summer the park debuted “Music in the Park,” on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in the Gazebo. Artists are announced via the city’s Facebook and Instagram pages (@cityofpoway) prior to the performance.

Old Poway Pottery

Open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Old Poway Pottery (in the old blacksmith barn) is an educational workshop that specializes in recreating historic ceramics from the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 1900s. Artist in Residence Gini Keating is an experienced pottery instructor with a specialization in experimental archaeology and historical re-creation.

Poway Station (Coming Soon!)

The Great Room of the Porter House will soon host “Poway Station,” a model train display that has been a mainstay of park events over the years. More information will be announced by mid-September.

More Artists in Action

Christina Piacenza, of Coastal Gatherings, is an Artist in Residence located in the Parlour Room of the Porter House on Saturday’s from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Browse her beautiful, handcrafted wood designs, and catch live woodworking demonstrations in action! Stop by on the first Saturday of the month for a woodturning demonstration by Ray Eatons Workshop.

Oldies but Goodies…

Poway Midland Railroad

The historic locomotive, and other engines and cars, offer an unforgettable journey around Old Poway Park and into the olden days of the Golden State. The Poway Midland Railroad is operated by a volunteer group including a 1907 steam engine and 1908 cable car. Bookmark this schedule to check for maintenance and other closures, but the railroad typically operates on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Artisan Market

Poway Arts and Crafts Guild members and guest artists display, demonstrate and sell their hand-crafted items at Saturday markets twice a month (and weekly September through Christmas). The market supports with the park’s emphasis on living history by demonstrating the enduring value of traditional arts and crafts.

Farmers Market

Open every Saturday rain or shine from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Poway Farmers Market offers over 65 vendors providing fresh produce, flowers, music, and freshly-prepared food. All produce is certified, inspected by the agricultural commission, and is brought to you fresh from the grower.
