Original Post 12/9/24

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning (critical fire conditions) in San Diego from 10 a.m. this morning (Monday 12/9) until 4 a.m. Wednesday. SDG&E has asked customers to prepare for a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff from today at 12 p.m. through Dec. 13 at 12 p.m. View SDG&E’s “Designated At-Risk Communities” map at sdge.com/psps. You can enter your address to find out if you’re at risk.

The City of Poway encourages you to prepare now for potential outages:

  • Download the PSPS Notifications app for your phone to make sure you don't miss notifications from SDG&E about potential outages in our area.
  • Know your SDG&E circuit – that will make understanding updates on the SDG&E outage map easier.
  • Make sure your mobile devices are charged fully charged (cell phones, tablets and even lap top computers). Same goes for an electric vehicle and medical devices. Check your battery supplies to ensure that you have the right sizes for flashlights, lamps, etc.
  • Review how to manually open and close your garage door during a power outage, especially if you need to leave your house in the event of an emergency.

Prepare for potential winds gusts by bringing in umbrellas or any other lightweight decorative items that could blow away. If there is a power outage, please be aware that traffic signals have back-up batteries, then go dark once the battery is drained. Our Public Works Streets division is on alert to set out stop signs for any impacted intersections but would like to remind Poway drivers to treat dark or flashing traffic signals as a 4-way stop.
