March 20 was “Poway Wrestling Champions Day” in the City of Poway.
Mayor Steve Vaus, on behalf of the Poway City Council, presented a proclamation to the Poway High School wrestling team at the March 19 council meeting to honor them for their extraordinary achievements.
The Poway High School wrestling team broke the record for most team points when they captured the 2024 California High School State Championship title in February, and three Poway wrestlers were named state champions in their respective weight divisions. The team finished the season ranked #1 in California and #3 in the nation. The girls’ wrestling team took third place at the state tournament, including one weight division state champion.
