The November 8 General Municipal Election results were unanimously approved by the Poway City Council at the Dec. 13 council meeting. The candidate for at-large mayor receiving the highest number of votes was Steve Vaus with 10,822. The candidate for City Council District 1 receiving the highest number of votes was Brian Pepin with 2,520 and the candidate for City Council District 3 receiving the highest number of votes was Peter De Hoff with 2,143.
Accompanied by their families, newly elected councilmembers Brian Pepin and Peter De Hoff took the oath of office before taking their respective spots on the council dais. Steve Vaus was sworn in for his third term as Poway's mayor and Councilmember Barry Leonard (District 2) was appointed to serve a one-year term as deputy mayor. Poway city council terms are staggered, with District 2 (Leonard) and District 4 (Caylin Frank) terms ending in 2024.
Approving the election results was the last order of business for retiring councilmembers Dave Grosch (District 1) and John Mullin (District 3) after 12 years in office. Both were recognized for their long-time dedication to the City of Poway at the Dec. 6 council meeting.

As of October 24, 2022, the Registrar of Voters reported 32,849 registered voters in the City of Poway. The total number of votes cast for at-large Mayor was 19,445, the total number of votes cast for City Council District 1 was 4,633 and the total number of votes cast for City Council District 3 was 4,855.
