[ARCHIVED] Poway Announces Fourth of July Festivities

Old fashioned festivities and fireworks are among the fun planned around the City of Poway for this year’s patriotic celebrations on the Fourth of July.

Old Poway Park hosts its annual “Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate our country’s independence turn-of-the-20th-century style. This event will feature patriotic entertainment, a magic show, model train displays, free children’s crafts, and old-fashioned games. Tasty treats and train rides will be available for a nominal fee.

The VFW Post 7907 and the Poway Veterans Park Committee hosts a ceremony to honor those who selflessly served our country at Veterans Park (adjacent to Old Poway Park) beginning at 11 a.m. The park’s civil war-era cannon will be fired at as the ceremony commences and ends (approximately 11:30 a.m.)

Old Poway Park is located at 14134 Midland Road in Poway. Free Shuttles will run to and from the events at the following locations: Poway City Hall Parking Lot, 13325 Civic Center Drive; and Poway Adult School Parking lot, 13626 Twin Peaks Road.

The City of Poway will host two spectacular firework shows to light up the night sky over Poway High School (15500 Espola Road) and Poway Sportsplex (12349 McIvers Court). Gates at Poway High School open at 6 p.m. for a special viewing party, with games, activities, and a DJ spinning the tunes. $5 per person, children 11 and under are free. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. Arrive early to allow time for parking. Poway Sportsplex will not be open for viewing. See fireworks marking map

Lake Poway is open to the public on July 4 and will stay open as a viewing area for the fireworks at the high school. Please be aware that viewing is limited from the lake this year as the ballfield is closed as part of the water infrastructure capital improvement program. Parking is $10 for non-residents. Residents and active military members (with ID) are free.
