Poway’s annual street maintenance begins next month. This year’s project will address deep patch asphalt repairs on Poway Road from Community Road to Highway 67, Community Road from Stowe Drive to Poway Road, and Espola Road from Twin Peaks Road to Titan Way.
During the first phase (beginning in June), work will occur between 7:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Friday to limit the impacts on daytime traffic as much as possible. For worker safety and construction efficiency, the Poway Road Grade (between Espola Road to Highway 67) will be closed during that section of work with a detour via Scripps Poway Parkway. Work on Espola Road (Twin Peaks Road to Titan Way) will be completed during the Poway Unified School District summer recess.
Street work will require lane closures, which will change daily as the contractor completes repairs in each section of the road. Police, fire, and emergency medical vehicles will have full access during construction. Message signs will be stationed in advance to notify motorists of current road work information and a map is posted on the City’s website at poway.org/roads.
Poway maximizes the use of public funds by applying the right treatment at the right time to extend the life of the pavement. This approach maximizes pavement life using available and anticipated funding to keep the City’s streets in good condition. The City rotates street repairs, with one of eight street maintenance zones worked on each year.
The second phase, a slurry seal, will start in July and run through the end of August.
