[ARCHIVED] Apollo Grand Opening

Apollo Grand Opening after news

Poway Mayor Steve Vaus and councilmembers joined Chelsea Investment Corporation for the grand opening of Apollo, a 44-unit affordable housing community designed for seniors, including veterans. Located in the heart of Poway, on the northwest corner of Poway Road and Tarascan, it is expected that Apollo will be fully occupied by the end of January.

“Finding ways to provide affordable housing, especially for older adults and veterans, is more important than ever,” said Poway Mayor Steve Vaus. “I’m proud of our City Council for helping pave the way for opportunities here in Poway, along with our partners Chelsea Investment Corporation and Meridian Development.”

The affordable housing community is part of the Poway Commons along Poway Road. This is the first project realized under the revised Poway Road Specific Plan, which brought the community together to create a vision for the future of Poway Road.

Apollo residents are within walking distance to community resources such as the Poway Community Library and the Mickey Cafagna Community Center, which hosts free and low-cost classes and programs for older adults. They also have access to free adult education and skill building resources through Chelsea Development’s non-profit partner Pacific Southwest Community Development Corporation. This includes computer literacy, ESL and art classes, job counseling, financial literacy health and wellness workshops, and a food distribution program. There is also a Senior Companion Program that provides on-site person-to-person support and group assistance, including helping residents to apply for needed services, referral to social and health services in the community, and recreational activities.
