[ARCHIVED] Poway Tree Talk: Public Meeting Oct. 26

Trees along Twin Peaks Road

The City of Poway is hosting a public meeting to share an overview of the next steps in a project that’s providing attention to trees that line two of Poway’s key traffic corridors/emergency evacuation routes.

Through a federally funded hazardous mitigation grant, the city’s efforts will focus on the strategic removal of hazardous trees along the right of way of Espola and Twin Peaks Roads, as well as an open space area of Green Valley, just west of Espola Road. The goal of the Hazardous Tree Removal Mitigation Grant project is to make these emergency evacuation routes safer for residents in the event of a wildfire, while improving the overall health of trees in these areas.

Meeting attendees will hear from our tree experts on how trees were identified for removal, as well as the roadmap for getting from the stage of identifying trees to the stage of removing trees. Staff will explain how the grant process impacts what the city will focus on as well as how the project relates to long-term goals in the landscape maintenance districts (LMDs) along the Twin Peaks and Espola Road corridors.

The meeting will be held in the City’s Council Chambers, 13325 Civic Center Drive in Poway, with an opportunity to participate online.

Event timeline:

6 to 6:30 p.m. - optional "open house" to view project maps and speak with staff and LMD advisory committee members

6:30 to 7:15 p.m. - speaker presentation

7:15 to 8 p.m. - Q&A session, opportunity to speak with staff and LMD advisory committee members

Registration is not required, but to receive an email reminder about this event contact tree-project@poway.org.
