Pomerado North Project
(Updated Aug. 18) For the past month, three construction crews have been working to install new pipe along Pomerado Road in Rancho Bernardo and Poway. The third crew was added in early July to help with the trenching and installment process. Part of the challenge on the northern section of the project has been large granite boulders that must be broken down and removed in order to fully trench and install the pipe, but crews are making progress.
Since the start of construction on in May, SDG&E crews have trenched a combined total of more than one mile along Pomerado Road and installed more than 5,000 feet of new pipe in the trench at the three locations along Pomerado Road between Ted Williams Parkway and Stone Canyon Road. One crew is currently boring under the golf cart tunnel that goes under Pomerado Road near the Oaks North community. A sophisticated technique called Horizontal Directional Drilling is being utilized to bore under the golf cart path with minimal impact.
Drivers should prepare for potential delays at three locations on Pomerado Road, all working in a south to north direction. Reduced traffic lanes may be necessary along Pomerado Road as SDG&E works from south-to-north:

Pomerado South Project
(Update Aug. 13) The project began last week with mobilization and confirmation potholing activities. Trenching and pipe installation begins approximately August 16. Crews on the two North & South Projects are working away from each other in opposite directions. Crews on Pomerado North Project are working from south-to-north and Pomerado South Project are working from north-to-south, creating more separation as time and progress continue. The first crew working on the Pomerado South Project is beginning near the intersection of Pomerado Road & Vaughan Road. The second crew working on the Pomerado South Project is beginning near the intersection of Pomerado Road & Oak Knoll Road. The completion date is March 2022.
