[ARCHIVED] SDG&E Natural Gas Pipeline

SDGE pipeline map

The following is a notice from SDG&E. For questions, visit the SDG&E project website or call their Customer Call Center at 1-866-382-0886 during business hours.

Steady progress has been made over the past month on the Pomerado North Replacement Project in Poway and Rancho Bernardo. Since the start of construction on May 17, San Diego Gas and Electric Company (SDG&E) crews have trenched more than 1,600 feet along Pomerado Road near Ted Williams Parkway and along Pomerado Road near Stone Canyon Road and installed approximately 650 feet of new pipe combined at both locations.

Currently, crews are excavating the trench and installing new 16-inch pipe. The pipe is then welded and x-rayed, before applying a special protective coating to the pipe that will protect it from corrosion.  A yellow warning mesh and fiber optic cable are placed in the trench over the pipe to enhance safety by minimizing accidental dig-ins as well as remote detection of leaks, intrusion and ground disturbances.

sdge pipeline progressOver the next few months, two separate construction crews will be working from south-to-north on the project. Construction work zones for pipe installation will typically be approximately 1,000 feet long. On an average day, about 120 feet of pipe will be installed in the trench. The primary pipe installation portion of the project is expected to be completed by the end of November. Some additional testing and street restoration work will follow.

Reduced traffic lanes may be necessary along Pomerado Road as SDG&E works from south-to-north:

Location #1:  Just south of Ted Williams Parkway to Roberto Way

  • Time Frame:  June 28 – September 13
  • Normal Workdays:  Monday – Friday
  • Normal Hours*:  8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Location #2: Stone Canyon Road to Rancho Bernardo Road

  • Time Frame: June 28 – August 9
  • Normal Workdays: Monday – Friday
  • Normal Hours*:  8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

*Subject to City approval, hours may be adjusted to facilitate safe and efficient construction and/or address community needs.

Traffic control will be set up and flaggers present during these activities. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times. Residents and businesses along Pomerado Road will have ingress/egress access during this time.

Noise associated with this work will be minimized to the extent feasible. Every consideration will be made to ensure safety vehicles have immediate access and evacuation routes will remain open to all residents in the event of an emergency.
