Here’s a message from Mayor Steve Vaus for Poway residents.

In an abundance of caution and concern for the safety and well-being of the Poway community, through the end of March the City of Poway will immediately postpone or cancel non-essential meetings and gatherings that fall within guidance recently provided by the state.
The California Department of Public Health is stating that large gatherings that include 250 people or more and smaller gatherings held in venues that do not allow social distancing of six feet per person should be postponed or cancelled.
Among the programs, events and activities affected:
- The City Council meeting scheduled for March 17.
- All operations at Old Poway Park, including the Farmers Market, Poway Midland Railroad, and Poway Museum. Check the Hamburger Factory website for information on any updates to their operations.
- All shows and events at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. The Box Office will remain open standard hours.
- The Poway Chamber of Commerce street fair on March 29.
- Community Services special events (please see calendar at poway.org for information).
- All sports related activities, including youth sports using city facilities and fields, open play at the gymnasiums, the archery range and the bocce courts.
- All rentals of facilities located at Community Park, Old Poway Park, Lake Poway and neighborhood parks.
- All programming hosted by the city including the fishing seminars and youth and teen programming.
- Contract classes and camps and city hosted school tours at various facilities and cultural sites.
- The Poway Swim Center is closed to the public and all activities and uses will not be available.
- The Kumeyaay Ipai Interpretive Center will be non-operational.
The Poway Senior Center will be closed effective March 14, with a tentative reopen date of March 30. The senior center operates as an independent nonprofit. Check the senior center website for updated information.

The City of Poway is also scheduling intensive cleanings of all publicly accessible facilities. A dedicated team is monitoring local developments and overseeing the implementation of preventative actions for the city. The city continues to follow guidelines provided by public health agencies at the county, state and federal level.

The City of Poway Is closely monitoring the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) with San Diego County public health experts. The County of San Diego’s Health and Human Services Agency is working with the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention to monitor and respond to suspected cases in the San Diego County region.
Poway staff are participating in regular briefings with public health officials and public safety agencies.
