In an abundance of caution and concern for the safety and well-being of the Poway community, through the end of March the City of Poway will immediately postpone or cancel non-essential meetings and gatherings that fall within guidance recently provided by the state.
The California Department of Public Health is stating that large gatherings that include 250 people or more and smaller gatherings held in venues that do not allow social distancing of six feet per person should be postponed or cancelled.
Among the programs, events and activities affected:
- The City Council meeting scheduled for March 17
- The weekly Farmer’s Market at Old Poway Park and all public train operations
- All shows and events at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts
- The Poway Chamber of Commerce street fair on March 29
- Youth sports groups using city facilities and fields
- Community Services special events (please see calendar at poway.org for information on specific events)
The City of Poway is also scheduling intensive cleanings of all publicly accessible facilities. A dedicated team is monitoring local developments and overseeing the implementation of preventative actions for the city. The city continues to follow guidelines provided by public health agencies at the county, state and federal level.

The City of Poway Is closely monitoring the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) with San Diego County public health experts. The County of San Diego’s Health and Human Services Agency is working with the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention to monitor and respond to suspected cases in the San Diego County region.
Poway staff are participating in regular briefings with public health officials and public safety agencies.
