The City of Poway earned a ranking of 18th in the 2019 SafeWise “50 Safest Cities in California” report. Poway was the only San Diego County city named to this annual list of California’s safest cities based on FBI crime data and population statistics.
“I'm delighted, but not surprised, Poway is again the safest city in the county and among the safest in the state,” said Poway Mayor Steve Vaus. “We are deeply grateful for the dedication and perseverance of the Sheriff’s deputies who watch over our community. There is no other city safer in San Diego County because of their hard work – and it’s a big part of why I’m proud to call Poway home.”
Incorporated in 1980, the City of Poway is home to nearly 50,000 residents. “The City in the Country” is known for its safety, fiscal management, natural beauty, commitment to open space and recreational opportunities and a thriving business sector. The community offers a diverse range of housing options, an outstanding school district, a business park with more than 19,000 jobs, a broad range of dining and shopping opportunities, beautiful parks, over 55 miles of trails, 50 community events each year, and more.
