The November General Municipal Election will be Poway voters’ first look at elections by district in the city. The city’s district map was approved last fall with the ordinance stipulating that councilmembers in office at the time were to serve through their full term as an at-large representative. (View the ordinance for more information.)
This year City Council seats for Districts 1 and 3 will be elected by registered voters in their respective districts. Candidates must live in the district they wish to represent. Poway residents can locate their district by using this interactive map.
In the November election voters will also be asked to select candidates for two citywide positions. The mayor will be elected at large to a four-year term and a two-year councilmember position will be elected at large to fill the vacancy of an at-large term expiring in 2020.
Poway councilmembers not up for election this year will continue to represent the city at large. Council representatives for Districts 2 and 4 will be elected in 2020.
