[ARCHIVED] Candidate Filing Period Open

Election-2018-sm-TS

The filing period for candidates interested in running for Poway council positions in the November general municipal election opened on July 16 and closes at 5 p.m. on August 10. Applicants must have their nomination papers completed and turned in to the City Clerk’s office by that time. The positions on the ballot include:

     Mayor – Citywide; four-year term.

     Councilmember – District 1; four-year term

     Councilmember – District 3; four-year term

     Councilmember – Citywide; two-year term*

*This councilmember position fills the vacancy of the at-large term expiring in 2020. The opening was created by the resignation of Councilmember Jim Cunningham, effective June 6.

This is the first ballot electing councilmembers by district for the City of Poway. As determined when the district map was set, council positions for District 1 and District 3 will be up for election this November. Councilmembers for District 2 and District 4 will be voted on in November 2020. The mayor continues to be elected citywide.

The first step for potential candidates is to file a “Candidate Intention Statement.” While the deadline for candidates falls on a Friday in which City offices are closed, the City Clerk’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to receive candidate filings.
