The City of Poway is proud to announce the appointment of Brenda Sylvia to the position of Community Services Director. She will lead the city’s Community Services department, which enriches the community through an exceptional blend of recreation, arts, leisure, and cultural programs, and to provide parks / facilities and open space for all. The department has a staff of 20 full-time employees and a budget of $6.2 million.
Brenda has more than 16 years of parks and recreation experience, most recently as the Parks and Recreation Manager for the City of San Marcos. In her role she had oversight of the parks and trails, outdoor adventures, aquatics, senior center, special events and marketing divisions.
Among her notable accomplishments at San Marcos: expanding the volunteer park ranger program through a mounted/bike patrol; facilitating the trails master plan update; and deploying the use of facility scheduling software throughout the department.
“I’m impressed with the city’s focus on innovation, customer service and stewardship,” Brenda said. “The Community Services department has a reputation for setting trends and delivering top quality programs and services. I’m proud to joining this amazing organization and look forward to serving the community of Poway.”
Brenda has a degree in Recreation Administration from San Diego State University.
