All you need is 10 minutes to learn how to save a life at the free Sidewalk CPR Day this Thursday. Poway firefighters and volunteers will be outside the Poway Walmart from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to teach community members safety essentials for hands-only CPR.
Sudden cardiac arrest kills more than 1,500 San Diegans each year and medical science has proven that community this type of “bystander CPR” has a direct impact on cardiac arrest survival. This life-saving effort is sponsored in conjunction with San Diego County Health and Human Services, the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association and San Diego Project Heartbeat.
By taking part in Sidewalk CPR, community members learn when to call 9-1-1, when to use CPR, and how to provide this hands-only version. They’ll be taught where to place their hands, how deep to push and the rate of compressions.
