The City of Poway was named among the best places to raise a family in California in a recent study by WalletHub.com. Poway earned the 17th highest rating of 240 cities surveyed and the top rating of any city in San Diego County.
The study compared cities across 21 key metrics including “number of playgrounds” to “number of pediatricians per capita” to determine which among them is most conducive to family life. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with 100 indicating the most suitable conditions for family life. (See the survey here for more details.)
“If Poway had a middle name, it would be ‘family,’ so this news of our high ranking comes as no surprise,” Poway Mayor Steve Vaus said. “In fact, if there was a way to rank the intangibles that makes Poway so special and family friendly, we’d be ranked #1 permanently!”
Poway is no stranger to earning accolades for its quality of life. Poway was named among the safest cities in California in a survey released earlier this year by Safewise, an organization that annually rates the 50 safest cities in states around the country. It also ranked as the safest city in San Diego County in a report released by the San Diego Association of Governments in March.
Incorporated in 1980, the City of Poway is home to more than 48,000 residents. “The City in the Country” is known for its safety, fiscal management, natural beauty, commitment to open space and recreational opportunities and a thriving business sector. The community offers a diverse range of housing options, an outstanding school district, a business park with more than 19,000 jobs, a broad range of dining and shopping opportunities, beautiful parks, over 55 miles of trails, 50 community events each year, and more.
