The Poway City Council unanimously approved an employment agreement naming Tina White as city manager at its Sept. 6 council meeting.
White was named acting city manager in July and had been Poway’s assistant city manager since 2010. During her tenure, she played a key role in leading the city’s labor negotiations and water conservation efforts, as well as helping Poway wind down its redevelopment agency in compliance with a state mandate to dissolve all redevelopment agencies.
She began working for the city in 2001, starting as a management analyst and working her way up to administrative services director in 2006, in which she was responsible for human resources, finance, information technology, customer services and the water conservation team. White briefly left Poway for the Helix Water District from July 2009 to March 2010, returning to Poway to accept the assistant city manager position.
“There is no one anywhere more respected or qualified to be Poway's city manager,” said Poway Mayor Steve Vaus. “Between her experience, knowledge of the city and understanding of the council’s priorities and personalities Tina is the perfect fit.”
White grew up in San Diego County, graduating from El Capitan High School in Lakeside and earning a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration at San Diego State University. She lives in Lakeside with her husband, Mike.
Under the terms of the proposed employment agreement, White’s annual salary will be $236,280. The report outlining the agreement is included with the Sept. 6 city council meeting agenda.
