The catastrophic wildfires in the Los Angeles area are a stark reminder of the powerful impact disasters have on the communities they affect. To help our residents and businesses be as prepared as possible, the Poway Fire Department offers free events throughout the year to empower you to take meaningful action before, during and after a challenging event.
Sign up now to attend one of our free Emergency Preparedness trainings in March. You will learn what supplies to gather ahead of an emergency, what to cover in your family’s emergency plan, and what sources to turn to for information during an emergency. Classes are held in City Council Chambers located at 13325 Civic Center Drive.
- Wednesday, March 12, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
- Saturday, March 29, 8:30 to 10 a.m.
Also, save the date to learn more about wildfire safety and evacuation awareness in May. Wildfire is a part of Poway’s natural ecology. The city’s climate, vegetation, topography, and large amount of open space puts the community at risk for wildfires. These trainings provide tips on low-cost retrofits to harden your home, best practices for creating defensible space within your ornamental landscaping, and what to do before, during, and after an evacuation. Registration opens in March for trainings on Wednesday, May 14 (6:30 to 8 p.m.) and Saturday, May 17 (8:30 to 10 a.m.).
