Applications are now being accepted for the Poway Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Academy. The academy is held over five Saturdays, starting February 10 through March 9.
Poway CERT members support the community by organizing, promoting, and participating in emergency preparedness events, activities, and projects. During a disaster, CERT members may be called upon to support the city’s Emergency Operations Center, staff a care and shelter facility, or conduct damage assessment.
Participants in Poway’s CERT academy receive training in basic first aid, fire safety, simple search and rescue, emergency preparedness and disaster psychology. Classes are taught by Poway firefighters and guest speakers and the academy concludes with a hands-on exercise for participants to apply the skills they learned. The academy is open to Poway residents 18 years and older. Attendance at all five training sessions is required.
Anyone interested in attending the academy is encouraged to apply by Jan. 20, 2024.
