[ARCHIVED] Lake Poway Playground Celebration Dec. 21

shade sails on the lake poway playground

Lake Poway playground celebration December 21 from 1 to 3 pmThe City of Poway is celebrating the opening of the new all-abilities, adventure-themed playground at Lake Poway on Thursday, Dec. 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. The complete renovation was inspired by the lake and natural colors that reflect Poway’s largest regional park.

The celebration is open to the community and will include refreshments, plus a scavenger hunt and crafts for our younger guests.

The new playground offers a safe space where kids can develop social, emotional and physical skills. Shade sails cover over half the playground, in addition to natural shade provided by trees, to ensure the playground is enjoyable even during warmer weather.

The playground includes play elements to represent the trees at the park and rocks of nearby Mt. Woodson and decorative panels that commemorate the lake’s habitat. The area for younger children has a snack bar/bait shop fashioned after the lake concessions store, and a boat that is American with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible by wheelchair.

The play area for older children includes two towers with cork-screw slides, and elements that allow kids to choose different levels of difficulty. There is a log slide, stacked stump steps and a balancing leaf wobble board.

The city received a grant from the California State Department of Parks and Recreation to pay for a portion of the construction costs.

The Lake Poway upper playground is located next to the Pavilion at the Lake Poway Recreation Area, 14644 Lake Poway Road, Poway. Parking is free on weekdays ($10 parking fee for non-residents on weekends/holidays).
