Chris Hazeltine has worked in local government for more than 30 years. Prior to being appointed as City Manager, he was the Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Carlsbad. Hazeltine has also served as the Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Encinitas and worked for the City of Oceanside.
As City Manager, Hazeltine oversees an operating budget of $88 million, a workforce of more than 200 full-time employees, and capital improvement projects totaling nearly $44 million in fiscal year 2018-19.
Hazeltine graduated from San Diego State University with a bachelor’s degree in recreation administration and earned a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Point Loma Nazarene University.
