On Labor Day, Monday September 2nd lake will be open to fishing and boating.
The lake was stocked with 1,300 lbs. of Catfish Friday August 23rd for the last stocking of catfish this season. Night fishing will continue Friday and Saturday nights through August 31st. During night fishing the shore will be open until 11:30 PM and boats can stay out until 11:00 PM. During night fishing half day boats start at 4:00 PM.
The best bait is still Mackerel, but people also have success with chicken livers and shrimp. For boaters the best spot is still tying up to the Log Boom and people fishing from the shore have been having the most success at Jump Off Point and Boulder Bay.
When you stop by concessions to buy your permit ask about the best spots and baits. They have up to the minute information. Remember concessions closes at 6:45 PM, 9:00 PM on Friday and Saturday nights, so come early enough to buy your permit or rent a boat.
The next event here at Lake Poway is our Fall Camping Series. Sleep under the stars! Set up your tent and enjoy the park at your own pace. Hike the numerous trails, drop a line to catch a fish, cruise the lake on a motorboat, or simply relax by your campsite and enjoy all the natural beauty that Lake Poway offers. Fishing permits and boat rentals not included but may be purchased for a nominal fee at Lake Poway concessions. This is a rain or shine event! $25 per car.
