Carlos Castro landed a huge 35-pound catfish last Saturday August 25th. He could be heard all the way to the dock when he got it into his boat. Carlos is from Escondido and is a night fishing regular. He was using his secret bait (salmon) and fishing near the east buoy. Other anglers did well but this monster was definitely the highlight of the night. After weighing Carlos released it to fight another day.
Other than salmon, mackerel is still working well as bait and the hot spots continue to be Boulder Bay and the Log Boom.
This Friday and Saturday are the last nights of Night Fishing this year so if you want to try your luck in the cool night air you have two more chances! Boats can stay out until 11:00 PM and the lake will be open until 11:30 PM.
The lake will be open for boating and fishing on Labor Day September 3rd. We will be closing that day at the regular time, 7:15 PM, boats must be in by 6:45 PM.
When you stop by concessions to buy your permit ask about the best spots and baits. They have up to the minute information. Remember concessions closes at 6:00 PM (9:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays during night fishing) so come early enough to buy your permit or rent a boat.
