December 3rd was the opening day of trout season and it started off with some great fish being caught from shore and from boats. Roy Majita wcaught two nice Tailwalkers from the fishing pier. One bit a crankbait and the other a Panther Martin.
Shaun Casison limited with some nice sized fish using minijigs in Half Moon Bay.
Paul Kaufman of Santee caught a great 6.5 lb. trout among a mixed bag of trout and cats with Richard Pena from Winchester (see photo). They caught the trout using yellow Power eggs and worms in Hidden Bay and nabbed the cats on the log boom using chicken liver. Anglers on the shore are doing well. Half Moon Bay and Hidden Bay seem to be the best spots. Nightcrawlers, minijigs, and rainbow Power Bait are working best on the trout.
When you stop by concessions to buy your permit ask about the best spots and baits. They have up to the minute information. Remember concessions closes at 4 PM now so come early enough to buy your permit.
