Water Poster Contest Winners Recognized

May is “Water Awareness Month,” a time to appreciate and efficiently use water essential to the quality of life. In highlighting water appreciation, the City of Poway announced its top winners for the 2021 Water Awareness Poster Contest this week, which was open to all fourth graders at Poway schools. Students were asked to show, through their art, how they love water or save water and use their imagination to encourage others to do the same.

rozelle and mayor vausRozelle DeBeer (Chaparral Elementary School, Mr. Robert Voorhees) was awarded first place and received a $100 Amazon gift card, water bottle featuring her artwork, and framed poster of her artwork.

chloe and mayor vausChloe Holwill (Chaparral Elementary School, Mr. Robert Voorhees) earned second place and received a $75 Amazon gift card, water bottle featuring her artwork, and framed poster of her artwork.

jocelyn and mayor vausJocelyn Roy (Valley Elementary School, Mrs. Suky Romero) received third place honors and received a $50 Amazon gift card, water bottle featuring her artwork, and framed poster of her artwork.

This annual contest is sponsored by the North County Water Agencies (NCWA) and winning entries from each participating water agency are included the NCWA Conservation calendar. DeBeer, Holwill and Roy will also have their artwork entered for the chance to be selected for this year’s calendar cover.

Both teachers received $100 Amazon gift cards to go towards classroom supplies.
