Next week the Mickey Cafagna Community Center construction project is expected to get underway. Once the City provides the contractor (EC Constructors) with the notice to proceed on Nov. 25, construction fencing should go up around the site and work will begin.
The first phase of the project is pre-demolition. Utilities currently serving the community center complex need to be removed. Since these are connected with utility lines for other park buildings and amenities – including the swim center, ball fields and tennis courts – some of the work will include moving and rerouting those utilities away from the construction area. The old buildings will also need asbestos abatement before they are safe to come down.
Demolition is expected to be scheduled for early January.
