Public Meeting: Poway Tree Talks
Tuesday, October 26, 2021
The City of Poway is hosting a neighborhood meeting to share an overview of the next steps in a project that’s providing attention to trees that line two of Poway’s key emergency evacuation routes. The meeting will be held in the City’s Council Chambers. Attendees can join in person or online.
Through a federally funded hazardous mitigation grant, Poway is focusing on the strategic removal of hazardous trees along the right of way of Espola and Twin Peaks Roads, as well as an open space area of Green Valley, just west of Espola Road. The goal of the Hazardous Tree Removal Mitigation Grant project is to make these emergency evacuation routes safer for residents in the event of a wildfire, while improving the overall health of trees in these areas.
The meeting will give attendees a chance to hear from our tree experts to understand how trees are identified for removal. Staff will share the roadmap for getting from identifying trees to removing trees, and how the grant process impacts which areas the city concentrates on. Staff will also discuss how the project relates to long-term goals in the landscape maintenance districts along the Twin Peaks and Espola Road corridors.
