Council Adopted Marines Battalion: Highlanders

On May 25, 2004 the Poway City Council formally adopted the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion of the 1st Marine Division. The city extends its moral support for our men and women of this Division and for all of our country's service members who bravely serve the United States of America.

The City of Poway recognizes the challenges faced by our country's men and women who serve in the military. The city encourages all city employees, city businesses, service clubs, schools, and private citizens to be involved in this effort to support our men and women in the armed service.

1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division

1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion is a mechanized infantry battalion of the United States Marine Corps. Nicknamed the Highlanders, their primary weapon system is the LAV-25 and they fall under the command of the 1st Marine Division and the I Marine Expeditionary Force. The unit is based out of the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California.
