The Poway Oak was a coast live oak that inspired the City's logo. The historic Poway Oak Tree, symbol of the "City in the Country", was honored with a monument at Blue Sky Ecological Reserve, on Espola Road north of Lake Poway Road. Unfortunately, the remnant of the tree trunk was destroyed in the 2007 wildfire.
The Poway Oak Tree grew for over 200 years on a steep slope near Espola Road, south of Twin Peaks Road, and was removed in 2002 due to natural decay. A plaque marks the spot where it grew on Espola Road.
In 2004 to 2005 some of the wood was made into furniture at City Hall, clocks, pens, and even a few custom-made Taylor guitars!
