Safety Services

The Safety Services Department is one of seven Departments within the City of Poway.  Safety Services consists of two public safety entities – Fire Department and Contract Law Enforcement via the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.  Together, the Safety Services Department provides the community of Poway with responsive, high quality emergency and non-emergency services earning the reputation as one of the safest cities to live in.  The Director of Safety Services serves as the City’s Fire Chief and is assisted by the Deputy Fire Chief.  The Director of Safety Services splits time between the duties of a traditional Fire Chief with responsibilities of liaison between the Sheriff’s Department and City Manager.  The Safety Services Department is responsible for budget administration of the following public safety core services:

  • Fire Suppression, Rescue, Hazardous Materials, All-Hazards Response
  • EMS Treatment and Transport
  • Fire Prevention
  • Disaster Preparedness
  • Law Enforcement and Patrol
  • Criminal Case Investigation
  • Crime Prevention
