Night Fishing
Night fishing returns annually to Lake Poway mid June and is offered every Friday and Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. through mid August. Motorboats and rowboats are available for rent and shoreline fishing is always available. The lake receives regular stocks of hungry catfish and there are plenty of resident catfish leftover from previous years.
Family Campouts
The City of Poway Community Services Department is proud to offer the perfect family activity for the summer at the annual Family Campouts at Lake Poway. This camping experience is perfect for first time family campers.
Entertainment and activities are offered for the whole family and include boating and night hikes. Gather around the campfire for an evening of s’mores and a special visitor for entertainment.
All participating families will need to bring a family tent, camping equipment, and barbeque dinner supplies, we will provide the grills and charcoal. Wake up to the birds chirping, fresh coffee, and a continental breakfast.

Target Summer Concerts in the Park Series

The Target Summer Concert in the Park Series continues to delights audiences of all ages each Summer. The series is cosponsored by Target Stores and the City of Poway and concerts are held at Lake Poway and Old Poway Park. The concert series emphasizes family recreation and cultural experiences in an outdoor setting and provides an opportunity for families and friends to enjoy a variety of musical styles.
The series begins in late June and continues on Sunday nights through September. Everyone is invited to bring a blanket or chair, a picnic dinner or snack, and head out to our parks for some great summer fun. Concert locations are offered at Lake Poway, 14644 Lake Poway Road, and Old Poway Park, 14134 Midland Road. Midnight Catfish Craze
Can’t sleep? Come join us for the annual Midnight Catfish Craze, held the end of July. The top five catfish by weight will be awarded prizes as well as a prize for the smallest catch of the night.
The lake will is stocked with over 1,500 pounds of channel catfish for the “Craze.” San Diego County’s only nighttime catfish tournament promises to be filled with lots of big fish, fun, and great prizes. Information: (858) 668-4770.
Trout Season at Lake Poway!
Lake Poway currently holds the county record for rainbow trout at 17.85 pounds! The gates of Lake Poway and the full-service Lake Poway Concession, which offers bait, boat rentals and delicious menu items, will be open throughout the season from sunrise to sunset, Wednesday through Sunday. The lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout from November through April.
Permits are $6.00 for adults (16 and older) and $3.00 for youth (8 to 15). Seniors 55 and older receive reduced rates. Information: (858) 668-4770 or Lake Poway Concession (858) 486-1234.
