The City of Poway is accepting applications for appointment to the City Council to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Councilmember Jim Cunningham, effective June 6.
The term of this at-large council seat is from the date of appointment to the certification of the next general municipal election in November 2018. In the November election, a successor will be elected to serve the remainder of the at-large term through November 2020. If the individual appointed by Council is interested in serving through November 2020, they must run for office on the November 2018 ballot.
To be considered for the position, applicants must be at least 18 years old and a registered voter in the City of Poway.
At a special meeting of the City Council on Monday, June 18 at 6 p.m., each qualified applicant may be asked to make an oral presentation to the City Council. They may also be interviewed by Council.
Those interested in applying are strongly encouraged to submit applications by Wednesday, June 13 at 5:30 p.m. to be forwarded to council for review when the June 18 special meeting agenda is posted on Thursday, June 14.
Applications will be accepted through 12 p.m. on Monday, June 18, however applications submitted after 5:30 p.m. on June 13 will not be included in the meeting agenda nor available for review until the June 18 meeting.
The application can be completed online, but must be printed, signed and received by the City Clerk's office in person or via US Postal Service by the deadline stated above. (Please note that applications must be received, not just postmarked, by this deadline.)
