Training & Professional Development Program

The goal of the Training and Professional Development Program is to establish and maintain quality training and proficiency in areas of emergency response relating to fire suppression, technical rescue, emergency medical service, and environmental emergencies. The program focuses on promoting the professional development of personnel and improving team response capabilities.

The Training and Professional Development Program is designed to assist the department with planning, coordinating and documenting all training and professional development activities. Continued education of its members and the practice of manipulative skills are vital to the success of carrying out the mission of the Poway Fire Department.

Program Components
Training and professional development can be achieved through a variety of methods. Individual study, company training classes, formal education and certification courses, company exercises, individual skills review, and single company and multi-company drills are all methods of effective professional growth. Each offers a different method for maintaining and expanding job knowledge and manipulative skill proficiency. The Training and Professional Development Program consists of the following components:
